Spring is finally here. While you're busy freshening up the wardrobe and home, don't forget your skincare and face.
Top 3 Spring Skincare Tips:
1. Clean out the makeup drawer/purse/kit. When was the last time you had a really good look inside? Find any clogged up mascara, worn down lipsticks, gunky sponges and brushes? If so, toss them out. You really won’t use them again next season. Did you continue to use them while having a cold or flu over winter? Then toss the applicators in the bin, replace with new ones and wash your makeup brushes. You want to avoid taking nasty bacteria into next season. I recommend soaking in very warm, anti-bacterial dish wash or liquid hand soap; rinse thoroughly in running water and dry in the sun.
2. Review your skincare products. The cooler months usually call for heavier, oil rich body creams and moisturisers. Spring is a good time to switch to a lighter, protective tinted moisturiser and body lotion and ensuring any serums or oils are of the light, fast absorbing kind. If you’d like some help in reviewing your current skincare needs, feel free to comment, email or give me a call. 3. Get a facial. As the seasons change, so does your skin. It’s probably feeling a little rough around the edges right now – dull, maybe tight and itchy from the wind? Now is the perfect time for a Drift Facial to slough off the winter woes and rejuvenate your skin. I use a combination of exfoliation and rejuvenating mask treatments depending on your skin type. My favourite to kick start skin into action is using the very gentle, yet effective ultrasonic device. It works by sending ultrasonic sound waves below the skin’s surface which help release dead skin cells and loosen blocked pores. Heat and vibration is created, enabling product to penetrate further in to the skin. By stimulating the lower layers of the skin it also provides the benefits of a mini-massage i.e. it increases blood circulation, encourages lymphatic drainage and promotes cell rejuvenation.
DIY Face Mask
If you don’t have time for a relaxing Drift Facial in the very near future, below is a DIY Rejuvenating Face Mask you can prepare at home using only 3 pantry ingredients: 1. Rice Flour (or powder): to gently exfoliate and soothe. This is the base ingredient in Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant. If you don’t have rice flour in the pantry, you can make your own by grinding basmati rice in a coffee grinder, or by using a mortar and pestle (which may take a little time). Please choose the finer rice flour over grinding your own if you have sensitive skin as the grains may be a little too abrasive if not ground fine enough. 2. Yoghurt - to improve skin texture, especially for aging, sun damaged skin. Yoghurt is a natural form of lactic acid (a gentle alpha hydroxy acid or AHA) which works by loosening dead skin cells and softening the skin. Choose natural greek style yoghurt, not the sweetened or flavoured kind. 3. Manuka Honey – to help retain moisture and clear and blocked pores and breakouts through its anti-bacterial properties. Look for manuka honey with a UMF rating. The higher the UMF, the higher the anti-bacterial benefits.
